Training
The CTA co-ordinates Training and Development for community television, working with the existing three channels and with the wider network of community content producers.
In 2006 a training network was formed and was successful in its application for one of the Training Links Projects co-ordinated by The Wheel. Under this programme the Community Television Training Network (CTvTrn) assessed the needs of the new channels and embarked on a member-led research and training programme - this project is summarised below.
In particular the CTA yearly submits to the BCI's Training and Development programme and has received grants since 2006 to address training and development needs. The training and development programme follows the model established by CTvTrN,
Community Television Training Network:- About the Project . . .
The Community Television Training Network (CTVTN) is an all Ireland network of community media and community television groups, who are involved in developing community television. This is one of eleven Networks that have received funding under the Training Links programme, facilitated by The Wheel, to design and implement member-led training that addresses their needs. The project has also received support from the BCI and the Dublin Community Forum in the form of funding for the first event "Taking The Air" in November 2006.
An initial needs analysis and planning process identified five research areas that will form the basis for modules:
- Legal, regulatory and policy issues around Community TV
- Community TV Programme Formats
- Interacting with Communities (ethos, outreach and methodologies)
- Technical and Technology
- Community TV Station Management
CTVTN members have formed teams, with a team member acting as co-ordinator, to develop the research and identify the necessary expertise for the module. The Project will run through to June 2007 and is designed to support the needs of the developing community television organisations.
The first event for the project is "Taking The Air" a three day practical workshop looking at community television programme formats with help from people working in community television channels from the US, Italy, Denmark, the UK, and Northern Ireland. These will be hands-on workshops aimed to support those about to engage in programme production for the newly licensed community television channels, DCTV and P5TV.
